Potential Therapeutic Uses of Medical Cannabis

As states continue to push legislation for medical marijuana, more and more physicians are coming to terms that medical use of the drug can benefit many.  Scientific research in the new century has proven therapeutic use of cannabis and cannabinoids of 19 clinical indications:

1.     Alzheimer’s disease

2.     Amyotrophic later sclerosis

3.     Chronic pain

4.     Diabetes mellitus

5.     Dystonia

6.     Fibromyalgia

7.     Gastrointestinal disorders

8.     Glimoas

9.     Hepatitis C

10.  Human Immunodeficiency Virus

11.  Hypertension

12.  Incontinence

13.  Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

14.  Multiple sclerosis

15.  Osteoporosis

16.  Pruritus

17.  Rheumatoid arthritis

18.  Sleep apnea

19.  Tourette’s syndrome

Lets let the science prove why cannabis needs to be legal.  The health industry is long overdue for cannabis to be entered into their world.  Patients deserve to use whatever drugs they want to make them feel better.  I couldn’t think of a more natural way of healing.

Millions spent on Marijuana Enforcement

A new report from the Cato Institute has said New Jersey spent about $183,039,000 and Pennsylvania spent about $190,445,000 on marijuana enforcement.  That includes policing, prosecuting, and incarcerating marijuana offenses in 2008 alone.

This is why we should take that money we would normally spend on enforcement and use it for education or hospitals.  The Cato white paper includes a state by state breakdown of drug prohibition and related costs.  Through researching the current expenses could be projected into real-world savings, which could be given to state and municipalities so that we don’t have waste taxpayer money.

Conflict in The Golden State over Marijuana

What’s the conflict you ask?  Simple enough it’s Marijuana.  In the land of hippies, Cheech and Chong, the state is having a conflict about marijuana.  A state known for the first to legalize medical marijuana is now having a close conflict over the full legalization of pot.

The new polls show the public is deeply divided.  You have pot growers opposing it, some law enforcement is in favor of it, and some medical marijuana patients are on the fences.  Of course you have the federal law hanging over everyone’s head in the distance.  The Supreme Court has ruled that no matter how California votes on proposition 19 it is still illegal federally.

Marijuana or Marijuana Ice cream – Which one you want?

Time appears to have come to choose between pot smoking and eating a bowl of ice cream. The medical marijuana dispensary has started selling ice creams – Banannabis Foster, Straw-Mari Cheesecake and TRIPle Chocolate Brownie marijuana-infused ice creams – alongside run-of-the-mill bags of pot.

The ice cream is yet to be consumed on site; but marijuana patients have the option to buy and take their medication home either to smoke or enjoy with dessert. Proprietor Jonathan Kolodinski says that at present they have three flavors of ice cream; however they are planning for more flavors in future. Kolodinski has opened the dispensary in front of Dominican Hospital this week.

Medical Marijuana advocates oppose Prop. 19

You read the title right and you’re asking yourself how can someone who has any involvement want to oppose this bill.  As I’m writing this I’m still wondering myself how anyone dealing with the drug marijuana wouldn’t want this bill to pass.  This has been a long time coming and too many people have fought to get this drug legalized for medical and recreational purposes.

Is Arizona next for Legalization of Medical Marijuana?

AZ Prop 203 is an important upcoming bill for the November 2nd ballot.  It will give the state of Arizona legalization of medical marijuana.  The bill calls for possession, growth, purchase, and use of marijuana to be approved by cardholders with a debilitating medical condition.

I think personally this is the first steps to legalization for AZ, since California is right there with Prop. 19 getting ready to fully legalize.  The bill proposed, Prop. 203, is designed to help patients get the medicine they need without having to worry if they will go to jail or not.

California Anit-Prop. 19 campaign backed by Beer Distributors

According to The Marijuana Policy Project the California beer and beverage distributors have given a $10,000 contribution to the campaign to fight against Prop. 19.

Steve Fox says, “Unless the beer distributors in California have suddenly developed a philosophical opposition to the use of intoxicating substances, the motivation behind this contribution is clear.” “Plain and simple, the alcohol industry is trying to kill the competion. They know that marijuana is less addictive, less toxic and less likely to be associated with violent behavior than alcohol. So they don’t want adults to have the option of using marijuana legally instead of alcohol. Their mission is to drive people to drink,” he went onto say.

The beer distributors don’t care how many of their consumers die of liver disease or car crashes each year. There business comes from distributing more alcohol so they can’t have people drinking less or they would lose profit. Sometimes you need to give the public what they want just like when they wanted alcohol prohibition to end.

Even though some law enforcement supports the Prop. 19, some still oppose it by arguing, ‘We have enough problems with alcohol, we don’t need to add another intoxication substance to the mix,’ implying that cannabis is just as bad as alcohol,’ Steve Fox said in a statement.

NORML has been seeking for marijuana reform for over a decade was disturbed by this news and has become very interested in the matter. Now cannabis activists are taking their protests further due to being disgusted with the way the alcohol lobby is acting.

Even a retired California Judge and Law Enforcement Against Prohibition spokesman, Jim Gray, has said the companies of the alcohol industry are being smart. What he said was, “It was really wise thing to do from a merchandising standpoint to reaffirm the distinction between a legal and an illegal drug.” He then said, “They are protecting their own economic self interest.”

Proposition 19 has many enemies but overall will prevail from cannabis propaganda. It is a new time and the truth can no longer be put in the dark for major political people with deep pockets. Cannabis is a safer alternative to alcohol and other over the counter drugs and the companies against this law know it.
