Maryland Marijuana Laws

The state of Maryland allows the medical use of marijuana, joining 14 other US states in doing so. According to Maryland marijuana laws, if any person arrested for possessing marijuana, then the court is bound by the law to consider the defendants medical necessity before deciding on a sentence. If it is proven in court that the person was using the marijuana for medical purposes then he will be charged with a maximum of $100 in fine.

The medicinal use of marijuana has been allowed by 14 US states, each having its own laws, like Massachusetts marijuana laws. However, the state laws are not applicable at the federal level. According to USA marijuana laws at the federal laws, the cultivation, possession, growing and selling marijuana is punishable by a hefty fine and a long prison sentence.
However legal provision that govern marijuana usage in Maryland are relatively quite relaxed as opposed to stringent federal laws. Under the Maryland marijuana laws, if the person caught with marijuana and is not able to prove that he was using the marijuana for medication, then he could end up paying a fine of $15,000 or serve a prison sentence of up to five years, if the amount of marijuana involved is 50 pounds or less than it.
If the quantity of marijuana involved is more than 50 pounds then the person is for some big trouble as he would then have to pay a fine of up to $100,000 and serve a five year prison sentence. However, if the person is caught with the marijuana within a 1000 feat of a school when it is in session or on a school bus, the prison sentence is boosted to 20 years and the fine is for $20,000.
Similar to the Massachusetts marijuana laws, if a person is caught bringing 5-10 pounds of marijuana into the state of Maryland then he could be ordered to pay a fine of up to $10,000 and serve up to 10 years in prison.
Hardcore drug dealers should be aware that if they are caught bringing  5-45 kilo grams of marijuana into the state then they could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years and would have to pay a fine of up to $50,000. If they are caught again, then the prison sentence is reduced to 2 years and the fine to $2,000.
However, owing the introduction of medical marijuana into the Maryland laws, it has become easier for patients, who can benefit from taking marijuana, to procure it from any newly opened state licensed marijuana dispensary.
Despite the strict penalties under the Maryland marijuana laws and the medicinal use of the drug, the state has a booming hemp industry. Hemp is derived from the marijuana plant, cannabis sativa, and contains less than 1 percent tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the main ingredient in the drug.
Because of its low THC level, hemp is used in making clothes, stationary, paper, paints, cosmetics, plastics, animal food , food products and textiles.
Marijuana has its good and points but sometimes, however the bad points are so overwhelming that the usa marijuana laws have still not legalized its medicinal use despite 14 individual states doing it. Research has proved that marijuana helps in treating the symptoms presented by some dangerous diseases including AID and cancer. In cancer patients, undergoing chemotherapy, the drug is used to make them hungry and treat nausea and vomitting.
