LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) T.I. the Grammy-winning rapper was arrested along with his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle on charges of taking drugs. The police arrested them when they smelt marijuana from his car. He was still on probation after spending time behind bars on gun charges.
Los Angeles deputy Mark Pope told the Associated Press that the arrest was made on Wednesday night in West Hollywood for possession of a controlled substance during a traffic stop.
The department personnel said that the odor of marijuana emitted from the vehicle was quite strong and deputies smelt it. The arrest was made after a narcotics investigation.
The media Spokesperson of the department office said that they are yet to receive the exact details of the specific drug possessed by T.I and also the concerned charges.
T.I is based in Atlanta and is of 29 years age. His real name is Clifford Harris Jr. His wife, Cottle is 36 years old and she is a singer by profession. She has been singing with the 1990s Xscape group and recently acted in the BET reality series “The Tiny & Toya Show”. Both were booked at the West Hollywood sheriff’s station. The bail amount kept was $10,000 each.
Los Angeles deputy Mark Pope said on Thursday that he is not aware whether they are still being held.
The publicist of T.I did not comment on this issue.
T.I., the multi-platinum rapper had an important role in the movie “Takers” which is the top movie currently in the box office. He had spent 7 months in the federal prison at Arkansas and three months in a Georgia halfway house on federal charges for holding weapons and was released in March. At present he is on probation for 3 years.
T.I, who spent time in prison for drug offenses in the past, had promised to live a better drug free. He also spoke to children on the dangers of drugs and guns. Andrew Young, former United Nations Ambassador was one of his supporters. As he is preparing for his new sentence he starred in the MTV reality show “T.I.’s Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go.”
