Marijuana and Guns don’t mix or do they?

Out in Colorado you can use marijuana for medicinal purposes and you can also purchase firearms, but you can’t purchase both at the same time.   Due to federal and state laws there are conflicts between the two not allowing this.

To buy a new gun in Colorado you are required to complete a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms disclosure form.  One of the questions asks is “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”  While marijuana is legal under state law for medicinal purposes, the same can’t be said federally as it is still illegal.

Medical marijuana users who want to purchase a gun could try bluffing because the Bureau of Investigation isn’t allowed to compare applicant responses with the names of the Medical Marijuana registry.  If you’re found bluffing or lying on your ATF form you can do prison time for fraud.  The best way to get a gun if you’re a medical marijuana user in Colorado is to buy your firearm privately since it doesn’t require the same paperwork.
